Birra Menabrea is part of the history of beer in Italy. Founded in 1846 by Mr. Welf di Gressoney and the brothers Antonio and Gian Battista Caraccio, in 1854 the brewery was rented to Giuseppe Menabrea and Antonio Zimmermann, who bought it in 1864. Following the exit of Zimmermann from the company, it was Giuseppe Menabrea who set up the 6 July 1872 "G. Menabrea and sons". At the head of the brewery is Carlo Menabrea until, in 1896, the company passed into the hands of Emilio Thedy and Augusto Antoniotti, husbands of the Menabrea sisters. From that moment on, the Thedy family will lead the company.
In 1991, the company became part of the Forst Beer Group. However, Birra Menabrea retains its strong identity and independence intact. Since 2005 the director is Franco Thedy, the fifth descendant of the family. In 2017, Franco Thedy gave the go-ahead for the expansion of the Brewhouse with advanced features and a spectacular visual impact. Inauguration is scheduled for March 2019.

Nice Italian pale lager. crisp, clean palate, some fruit overtones, but not enough to either displease, or enjoy. Great beer to have with some heavy italian food. not bad, but not great.

330ml Bottle - Golden with a white head. Grassy aroma with a hint of citrus. Malty and slightly sweet taste with a faint hint of dry pineapple and a very mild bitterness. Drinkable and refreshing, but not very exciting.

13/10 This is obviously the regular Italian version of Menabrea, 1846 is USA only, so both were rated there so far... Doggythedog and me got a 0.66l bottle that he found in a supermarket in Andora (Italy). It poured golden body with bigger head. Hop and some pale lager malt in aroma. A bit bitter flavor from herbal hops, that raw malt again and some strange toasty notes. Medium body and shorter, bittersweet finish. Nothing special, but fine and pleasant pils/pale lager.

Bottle. Sour, skunky malt aroma. Pale yellow with small head. Light stale barley malt flavor. Very little flavor and what’s there isn’t that great.

Bottle: Poured a pale yellow color lager with a medium size pure white bubbly head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of sweet adjunct is not very interesting. Taste is also dominated by some sweet adjunct though quite bland at the end of the day. Body is about average with some average carbonation as well. I am sure Italy as a lot more to offer in terms of craft beer then this crap.

66cl. Bottle @ Italy. Pours clear golden with a off white head. Nose and taste is bitter and dry of corn, grain and hops. A bit of buiscuit. Medium bodied. Fine balance. Dry end. Ok drinkable.
