Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Tap. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is earthy hops. Taste is slightly buttery, fruchtgummi. Natural carbonation. Nearly feels Franconian. Nice!

Tap. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is spicy, peppery, yeasty. Taste is spices, some grains. Silky mouthfeel. Quite boring, but the spicing is fun.

Tap. Clear deep golden color with white head. Aroma is phenolic, a bit boozy. Taste is slightly estery, jammy, a bit sweet grains as well. Silky mouthfeel, fine-bubbled carbonation. Untypical for a Tripel, not my thing.

Tap. Ruby color with eggshell head. Aroma is bubblegum, spicy, toffee. Taste is more toffee, a bit estery, slightly boozy in the back. Feels heavy, quite a head crusher. Nice enough.

330 ml. bottle shared. BBF March 2017. Hazy golden, fizzy small white head. Nose is indeed similar to Absinth, big star anise in a pleasant way with huge muisjes profile (typical candy form the Netherlands, sugared anise seeds – seems like Dutch Rusk might be the correct English translation). Taste is basically muisjes beer (no wonder this beer was made in the Netherlands), low bitter anise in the finish, base is some grain & low butter. Body is fizzy & bit buttery. Taste is a bit too buttery – base could have been a bit better but the anise / muisjes profile works really well here & reminds we quite well of Absinth. Pleasant surprise actually & other 2 guys really enjoyed it. I saw people ripping on this beer at Tilburg Beer Festival, those people also admitted to hating anise.

Draft at Blaauwe Hand, as Hemel Hopverdomme IPA. Aroma of grain, hop and some peach. Flavor is bittersweet, with sweet caramel, toffee, mild citrus, peach and some malty sweetness. Very british.

Sampled from tap at the brewpub as ’De Hemel Hopverdomme’. Clear, golden yellow with a white head. Sweetish, fruity-grassy aroma of lemon, grapefruit and fresh grass. Slightly bitter, grassy-fruity taste of lemon, grapefruit, pomelo and fresh grass, followed by a medium long, medium grassy-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice!
