Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Draught @ Stadsbrouwerij De Hemel. Hazy cloudy yellow color, medium sized white head. Aroma is wheat, lemon peel, pepper, coriander and slightly yeast. Taste wheat, a hint of lemongrass, lemon peel, yeast, slightly zesty. Soft mouthfeel, suitable body and carbonation, easy drinkable. Nicely refreshing.

Sampled draft @ Arendsnest during Carnivale Brettanomyces #4. Hazy amber, orange, red fruits hued appearance with lacing white head. Nose is dull metallic with light malt, sugar, quite non-descript,… Taste is odd sugar, malty, candy, sweet malts, caramel, smoke is very low, light wood,… Med. body. A bit dull & somewhat too sweet, smoke is too low. Okay but boring and too bland. (Thanks for sharing Kermis, Maakun & tlahav).

Draught @ De Baron, Eindhoven. Clear amber-ish color, medium sized off-white to beige head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, grainy, slightly metallic. Taste malts, iron, metallic, a hint of caramel, perhaps even a slight hint of butter, lightly bitter. Average body and carbonation. Meh.

(Draught at De Drie Dorstige Herten, Utrecht, 26 Feb 2015) Amber colour with lasting, frothy, off-white head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with toast, orange peel and bready malt. Malty taste with notes of toast, caramel, orange peel and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
