Description
Owner Matt, developed the Boneface craft beer brand from a love of all things beer and sci-fi. All beers are cleverly crafted to incorporate Planet Hoptron (that’s the Planet of Hops, if you are wondering), and it’s inhabitants.

Bringing the goodness of Planet Hoptron to Upper Hutt was a no-brainer – Matt’s brewing background and passion for craft beer fit perfectly into the burgeoning Upper Hutt craft beer mecca. Whilst brewing the favourites, he’s always in a parallel universe, developing new and innovative craft beer flavours for you to try.

Can, 6%. Amber, a cm or so of white head. Aroma of breadcrust, kumquat, weeds. Sweet with some caramel on the breadcrust, tenor register citrus joined by resin towards the fairly bitter end. A bit of a throwback but fine.

Can. Fairly hazy orange with a 2cm white head. Vague citrus aroma - mainly oranges - with bread and some herbs. Cleaner and better defined than the aroma suggested with brighter citrus tones and leaner malt. Bitterness is modest but enough for a finish.

New ???? brewery ? - deep juicy tropical fruity with lots of papaya, mango and lychee, peachy and nectarine notes, sweet malty backbone, medium body, boozy yet still pretty easy drinking, went down well, very nice.

440ml can. Boneface under new ownership & new can designs. Pours a mid clear gold with a moderate white head. Aroma is mild with the mild malt & decent hops. Flavour follows the aroma; mild malt base & medium bitter hops. Decent enough APA without being anything special.

Can. Clear golden amber with a white head. Aroma of breadcrust, grapefruit, weeds, hints of stone fruit. Sufficient malt presence - breadcrust, light biscuit - but leanish with kumquat and weedy bitterness. How could I leave this behind?

Can from lowcostbeer.com, cant see a BBE date. This one seems to be genuinely brewed and canned in New Zealand rather than contracted with a European brewery. Hazy yellow-gold, small white head. Aroma - fruit salad, vanilla, grass, somewhat dusty. Taste - of orange, grapefruit, melon, lemon zest, dusty hop, creamy-vanilla element. Modest bitterness. Medium bodied, light chewiness, fine carbonation, drying. Good.

Can from lowcostbeer.com. Light hazed gold with frothy white head. Decent hoppy aroma of grapefruit, pine, sharp citrus, peach. Taste has a nice balance between fruit (citrus and grapefruit notes), soft malts and a bitter dry pine needle and grass noted finish. Medium body, nice smoothness but carbonation could have been finer. Good solid IPA.

Can, bb 12/24. Unclear amber with a good 2cm of white head. Floral - almost potpourri - aroma with some tropical fruit, crackers. Pretty much how it tastes - lots of mainly floral aromatics with little underneath. Moderate bitterness. A jumble.
