Rotterdam craft beer from a small beer company, 50 cl bottle from Plan B. Delicately and tightly cobweb-lacing, medium thick, creamy, off-white head, hazy warm burgundy colour with deeper ruby red hue. Aroma of moldy grapefruit, withering green herbs, toffee, soggy brown bread, fig, damp forest floor, damp potting soil, old hazelnut shells, fermenting apples, dusty old cocoa powder, apple peel, rainwater, dirty rubber, stale sweat, burnt sugar, forest mushrooms, old red wine, rotting mango. Spritzy onset, quite overcarbonated for a brown ale, very minerally (as in fiercely sparkling mineral water) and detracting from the actual flavor, consisting of restrained dried fig and raisin sweetishness and quite ’active’ redcurrant sourness, a bit too active actually, making me suspect light infection... Supple, slick body, nutty maltiness, bit sweetish but immediately turning toasted bitter and dry, the dryness of which is accentuated by the Mosaic in the finish, producing a grapefruity and herbal bitterness - though less spicy than expected - as well as retronasal dank and overripe fruit accents. The overcarbonation, with this intrusive minerally effect, kept seriously bothering me till the very end and definitely does not belong in this style; other than that, there is a sort of deep but inappropriate sourishness and an ’earthy’ smell that seem a bit off too, hinting at onsetting bacterial infection. Moreover, I have seen Mosaic being applied more elegantly than this as well. I guess the aim was to produce an ’American brown ale’ but frankly, it has not turned out all too well... These guys clearly have the right ambitions, but technical perfection should prevail over whichever creative idea one comes up with, and this one clearly falls short in that respect. Almost Flemish red-like but in a harsh, unelegant and rather unpleasant way. Pity.

brown colour with reddish notes, one inch creamy beige-ish - yellowish head, which lasts for severl minutes - even after 5 minutes, one third of it is still on the top of the beer :-) roasted rye bread, plum jam, other fruits like apricot, some minimal herbal notes and hints of milk chocolate; taste is the same with sourish fruity notes; really enjoyable ale

50cl Bottle from Burg Bieren. Hazy amber colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, caraway, medium sweet, rye, honey. Flavour is medium sweet, rye, spicy yeast, hint of plastic, some citrus, dry, caramel, light fruity, bitter finish. Firm carbonation that gives a creamy mouthfeel after a few swirls. Decent.

Bottle at The Belgisch Bier Café, Rotterdam, Monday 26th September 2016. Hazy orange gold in colour with an off-white sticky head. Soft easy going hoppiness, a lilting gentle fruitiness, a little peachy and with a tangy edge. Good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle. Color: Almost black. Big, very dense and long lasting light brown head. Taste: Full body. Espresso, earthy, roasted malts. Hints of herbs, iron. On the sweet side, but also hopbitter. Lots of soft carbonation, smooth. Pretty warm mouthfeel. Bitter coffee finish. Very nice stout.

Bottle from Drank van de Meisjes, dated 10 Aug 2015 so about a year old, large sample. Slight hazy golden to orange color, big rocky head. Aroma is spicy, coriander, grainy. Bit dry in the finish, bit peppery, coriander, citrus, soft bitter in taste, slight alcohol note. Decent stuff actually.
