Description
St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labora (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach. The brewery, being far into the abbey's land, is not open to the public for tours or tastings.

33 cl. bottle @ home, gift from Hilde. Hazy golden with a white head. Malty aroma with some hops and caramel. Medium bitter taste. Not as hoppy as I like my IPAโs but a good beer all round.

Tight white bubbly head stayed very well on finely effervescent, hazy orange body. Spicy orange aroma - quite sweet. Soft on the palate, tingly on the aft. A bit thin in the back. As the aroma, spicy orange, lemon, banana, yeast & a strong bitter spice on the back. Very much like a Tripel.

Bottle shared. Black with nice light brown head. Coconut, sweet malts, milk chocolate, soft roast, dried apple and apricot, light yeast, paper, a bit of licorice and soft plastic in the finish. Medium sweet and bitter. Bit over medium bodied with slight dry feel. Decent beer.
