Description
What began as an pursuit in quality beer became more serious when local homebrewer Ola Raphaug joined the discussion on local beer. 2015 saw many test batches and the feedback on the beers produced was too positive to ignore. A brewery needed to be built.

As 2016 approached the team started looking for a suitable place to put it all together. A recently closed and emptied supermarket proved to be a healthy space to put it all together. The building would have room to grow and had refrigeration systems vital to production of quality of beer. Located in Kotsøy the brewery would need a name and an identity.

Tormod Leithe from Dynamis Designs was brought to the table. He designed a logo that had the four elements as branches around a central core. The four branches represent the four valleys around Forollhogna, the four main ingredients of beer, and the founders of the business. Respectively the core, our product, comes from the branches of dedicated people and quality ingredients.
As the branches of this design came together so did the brewery.

44cl can from Gulating ølutsalg, Trondheim. Pours hazy golden with a modest, but lasting, white head. Fruity and wheaty aroma with citrus and tropical fruits. Moderate sweet with nice fruity and wheaty flavours and a pleasant bitterness. Refreshing, easy to drink and quite enjoyable. --- Beer merged from original tick of Fargo on 18 Apr 2017 at 20:09 - Score: 6

Unclear yellow color with fine white head. Good lacing. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation level. Semi dry ending. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Citric. wheat, fruity and some pine. Nice tasty beer. Lasting good flavor.

Bra intensitet i aromaen i allefall. Og en trenger ikke å lure på hva de har brukt mye av i bryggeprosessen her. Ingefær o hoi mate. Kroppen er temmelig lett, og kullsyrenivået er ikke så høyt som fryktet. Slapt faktisk. Her tok jeg feil altså. Lett sødme og en moderat bitterhet. Noe ubalansert. Men greit nok. Smaken…tja. Kitchen sink actually.

Can, shared by bergstaden. Very dark brown in the glass, with a small, beige head. Lots of roasted malts and coffee in the aroma, with hints of licorice, some dark chocolate malt and some dark chocolate. It’s medium bodied, smooth and pleasantly carbonated, with flavors of roasted malts and coffee. Some ashtray hints, dark chocolate and heavily roasted malts. Long finish with lots of roasted malts in the very end. A bit thin bodied but sure a fine brew. 170311

Can, shared by bergstaden. A dense, finger-thick off-white head forms over an unclear light amber body. Ginger dominates the aroma, some generic fruityness shines through, but little else. It’s lightly ginger burning in the mouth, medium bodied and smooth, with ginger, ginger and ginger in the flavor, stretching to the very end. Too much ginger for my liking. 170311

Can, shared by Bergstaden. An unclear, orange-golden beer with a dense, finger-thick head. The aroma is really delicious, piney, resiny and citrusy hops, with just a hint of malts. It could use more body and flavor, but considering the ABV it isn’t bad. Medium body, smooth and nicely carbonated, with a bit too subtle bitterness. On the other hand, it isn’t meant to be an IPA either. The flavor doesn’t live up to what the aroma promises, but it’s fine anyway. Pine cones, resins and some pale malts. Long fruity finish. Pity the flavor is so weak, else it would be delicious indeed. 170311

Can, thx to Bergstaden. An unclear golden-orange beer with a small, white head. Fruity, orangey, grassy and lightly husky aroma with some piney hints. It’s medium bodied, smooth and with a perhaps a bit low carbonation level. Decent bitterness in the mouth, with flavors of orange, some grass and a touch of pale malts. Long fruity finish. A decent one indeed, but a boring beer style. 170311
