From tap. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and slight phenolic flavoured. Caramelish and roasted. Bitter and dark roasted malty into the finish. Ends dry and malty, phenolic too.

From tap at Best Western Center City, Philadelphia. Pours clear and golden yellow to orange with a small slight off-white head. Aroma is peachy and pine. Medium sweet, light citrusy bitter and lingering fruity flavoured. Dry and bitter finish yet with a mild sweetness.

12oz bottle pours a lightly hazy deep gold with a lacing, creamy white head. Nose is very floral, very sweet, melon, rose petal, yeasty esters, banana, clove. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little grass, something a touch medicinal, honey, banana, spice. Full bodied but dry. Too much yeast, needed to be toned down a bit.

Aroma: The aroma is fairly malty, some caramel and chocolate notes

Palate: The body is light-medium for the style, slightly watery, with average carbonation
Overall Impression: This was a fairly straight forward porter with some decent malty flavors. Nothing too exciting, but the recipe has held up well-enough over time. Solid, enjoyable stuff.

Merryweather Post Pavillion, MD 24oz ($9.50): Pours a dark amber color with a nice head. Aroma is very malt heavy, but you can detect a good layer of British style hops. Taste is a little more bitter than I would expect a mild ale to be; however, the hopping is done very much in keeping with British style hopping and this does not strive for American excess. They tried to make a session ale and it worked well for the boys at Yards.
