Description
Yards has been brewing Philly's beer since 1994. We’ve grown from a garage-sized operation in Manayunk all the way up to our current location at 500 Spring Garden Street in Northern Liberties. And we couldn't have done it without your support through the years. Our beers always have and always will be brewed, bottled, kegged, and canned for the hard working people of Philadelphia and beyond.

Variety case: Pours a dark brown with a pretty nice looking creamy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, with a real nutty feel to it. Nicely bodied, so it doesn’t go down too heavy. A little bittersweet. Dark chocolate is the most present flavor. I suppose that there are some hops in there giving it an additional bitter and hoppy edge. Feels nice and creamy. A good porter. Good job Washington.

Case: Pours a mahogony amber color with an off-white head that stays around for a bit and leaves some leacing in the wake of its retreat. Aroma got molasses at the forefront with some malt backing it up. Can’t quite get the spruce out of the nose. Flavor is interesting and tastes like no other beer I had, although I must say that a certain familiarity is there. A bunch of molasses and a sweet finish, but really not that sweet. There is a real earthy feel to it, which I guess comes at least in part from the spruce. This is the kind of beer which is simply hard to describe because the vocabulary we are so used to simply does not apply. All in all, it ain’t bad and I’ll drink another two or three.

Dark with a malty aroma. Has some light spice in the aroma, as well. Flavor has a full malty taste with medium sweetness and some nice spicy hops. A decent brew but a little on the dull side.

Brown with a light head. Highly sweet malty aroma, caramel, a touch of toasted malts, too. Flavor is is very similar to the aroma with the sweet malts really coming on strong. A bit too sweet for me but still pretty good.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol and a touch of caramel. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavours with a very nutty and almost pecan flavour. Some caramel and light sugars come through, but with a relatively mild body - only some gets through. Aftertaste shows some complexity, but the roasted malt and caramel tastes come through most. Overall, a decent beer - lighter than I expected, but showing some good complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 25-May-2010, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 30-May-2010.
