Sample at Mongoose vs Cobra. Slightly hazy copper-amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and grainy malt. Medium to full body with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and underlying sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a short fruity hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Sample at Mongoose vs Cobra. Slightly hazy yellow-gold color with a thin foamy head that diminishes steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cucumbers, wheat and spice. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal wheat, cucumbers and malt. The finish is wheaty with a fresh cucumber aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a wonderful fresh cucumber note with a touch of wheat and a bit of earthiness. Flavor has an odd sweet wheat and and cucumber flavor with a bit of creaminess backing.

I poured this into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer.
The smell had a grassy sort of bittered caramel edge to a light nutty bitter hoppy aspect.
The taste was somewhat sweet but had a decent bitter edge of the malts.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still good for the style and for me. Lingering bitter grassy and grainy finish.
Overall, decent ESB, could probably do this again.

On tap at the Hay Merchant anniversary. Listed as belgian strong ale with grape must. Pours a clear copper with small white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma yeast, grape, oak. Medium mouthfeel with a dry fruit and grape with boozey finish.

This beer pours a dark mahogany color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit and yeast. Full-bodied and slightly syrupy with flavors of caramel malt, figs and earthy yeast. The finish is sweet with a brown sugar and plum aftertaste. Decent overall.

Tap. Pours clear amber, small off white head, decent lacing. Aroma is nearly nonexistent. Faint whiff of pine. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, caramel, pine, pretty nondescript. Medium body, a bit of lingering bitterness. Meh.

Aroma: The nose is rye malts, spice, some citrus hops, and a little pine
Appearance: It pours a reddish-orange color with a beige head and decent lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, nicely hopped, citrus mostly, with a good amount of spice
Palate: The body is medium, it has a clean feel, and a nice, mid-dry finish to it
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty nice example of a rye IPA. Good stuff.

Overall Impression: Nor the wind, the sun, or the rain, we can be like this beer is. The cedar comes through more in the nose than in the flavor. You can still taste it though, but really, it just acts to enhance the flavors of the rye and the hops. A nice one.
