The least accessible of the set, great if you love smoke and tcp. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head. Smoky aromas. Chewy as all fuck. Woody. Challenging.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of toffee and nuts. Taste brings some of the barrel, but mostly toffee and nuts. Full body, rich, creamy mouthfeel. Clean finish.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours dark brown to black with a thin cream-coloured head. Aromas of dark chocolate, toffee, and a hint of the barrel. Taste is dark brown sugar, dark chocolate and a hint of wood again. Light smoke and dark fruit. Full bodied and rich in texture. Dry finish. Good.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear dark brown with a short-lived thin tan head. Carb a bit low. Aromas of toffee, wood and booze heat. Bit of marmalade. Taste is nutty toffee and wood. Full bodied and boozy, thick texture. Good, but might be better with a bit of age on it.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black and close to opaque. Nose - big smoky seawood and iodine. Some toffee lurking at the back. Taste - big tarry, wood thing. Drying smoke. Some dark chocolate if you search for it. Palate - rich and medium to full bodied. Dry woody finish! Overall - I'm not usually a fan of beers being aged in Islay and although this one doesn't have that much in the way of wee heavy notes, I can see complexity will come with laying down.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Initially generous head this time. Nose - big toffee and nut thing going on. Just what a Scotch Ale should give. Taste - light burnt wood going into burnt toffee and nuts. Big praline thing. Palate - full bodied and creamy. Still very drinkable despite the richness. Overall - good stuff.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Thin creamy head. Nose - dark chocolate, light fudge. The wood is more subtle. Taste - molasses, dark chocolate and some wood. Light charcoal and smoke. A hint of blackberry towards the end. Palate - full bodied and rich in texture. Fairly dry and balanced, especially less sweet and boozy than expected. Overall - not sure I'd have known this was a Wee Heavy style underneath as it seems to have a lot of stout characteristics as a result of the barrel ageing. Great stuff. Can drink now, but interesting to keep.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7.5

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep brown to black with a nice fawn head that recedes fairly quickly. Nose - sweet wood and booze. Orange winegums. Taste - rich nuts and toffee. Then big sweet wood and booze thing again. Palate - full bodied and boozy, thick texture. Slightly sweet on the finish, but light roast helps it clean somewhat. Overall - will probably integrate better with another year!

330ml bottle from Aldi. Clear golden with a foamy white head. Sweet, light spice aroma. Flavour is big on the cardamon, slightly soapy and left my tongue a little numb. Mellows into a warming wintry spiciness
