Bottle. Malty, Schwarzbierlike aroma. Clear brown colour. Soft and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit malty, I guess, but nothing out of the ordinary. Citric aftertaste. 6 3 6 4 11

Draught, unfiltered at KØ13. Bready rye aroma. Cloudy brown colour. Small white head. The flavour is also bready, seems a little citric. 6 3 6 3 15

Bottled (BB 12/2005)
Hazy but brown, mostly vanishing off-white head. A bit sahti-like juniper - sugary nose. Some Belgish brune-like notes. Yeasty sweetish. Alcohol is not much present. Abbey ale -style is found here but otherwise slight dissapointment.

Bottle Poured a dark redish brown with not much of a head and spotty lacing. Aroma was easy on the hops but pretty heavy malty, musty and of yeast. Flarors were semi sweet, clove, spice and caramel. Feel was farily heavy and smooth with an astringent bite at the end.

(700 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Copper colour, slightly hazy, moderate head that doesn’t last very long. Lovely aroma of dark fruits and spices. Malty and slightly spicy flavour, could have been more complex but is still very good. Pleasant aftertaste. They have used Saazer hops for this beer, nothing wrong with that, but additional hop varieties would probably have brought the beer closer to "perfect". Still, quality is of course lightyears ahead of what most people know as "Carlsberg".

Bottle 2002. Dark brown, small white head which is gone quickly. First sweet and malty, then bitter and peppery. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, other than that nothing. Watery mouthfeel. 6 4 5 3 12

Rerate. Seems a little yeasty to begin with, but turns out to have a quite good balance between sweetness and bitterness after a while. 7 4 7 3 15

One of my last bottles from the cellar. Still called Semper Ardens Abbey Ale. BB December 2011, so almost 2 years past BB date. Still good, but I think it has peaked. So probably best a year or so after BB date in my opinion.

Cloudy dark brown with short lived white head. Keeps bubbling for a long time. Aroma is fruity with hints of honey, burnt malt and black berries. Flavour is a bit thin with some alcohol but there is a pleasant aftertaste of blackcurrant and hops.

Nice ruby color, medium to small head. Pretty neutral aroma, maybe there's some black currant. Somewhat fruity flavour, too much alcohol. Dry, piney finish. Nice attempt from Carlsberg but it lacks in complexity.

Amber color. Some malt aroma. Poor body, some sweetness without any character. Deceiving.

A brown beer with an OK head. It has the aroma of yeast with fruity notes. It has a fresh bitter taste of berries. An OK beer - but if I want a abbey style beer I'd rather have a Westvleteren, Rochefort or other original. And if I want one of Carlsbergs Semper Ardens beers this is my last choice.
