Bottle from the Black Toad. Appearance - golden amber with a proportionate off white head. Nose - lemon, biscuit and caramel. Taste - grapefruit pith, then mainly caramel and biscuit. Palate - light bodied, a little sweeter than hoped for on the finish. Overall - OK.

Bottle from the Black Toad. Appearance - cloudy orange. Nose - floral and light citrus. Brown bread.. Taste - orange, biscuit, mint lozenge. Palate - light bodied with balanced bitterness and good linger. Overall - not so many fruity high points but good balance.

Pale gold with a frothy white head and a floral aroma. Light bodied, smooth and easy drinking, with a hint of spicy sharpness to the light malt flavour and some mellow floral hop bitterness

Bottle from Chester Beer and Wine. Pours darkest brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate cake, as promised. Taste is more of the same. Sweet finish.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a pale lemon yellow with a small white head and good lacing. The nose is mainly yeast but with some citrus. Bitterness and a creamy texture are what hit the taste buds first, followed closely by grapefruit. Further sampling leads to lemon joining the grapefruit, and the finish is citrus bitterness. Not at all bad, though I would cal it a “hoppy pale” rather than a “session IPA”. But what do I know about beer styles ?

500ml bottle from Londis Penny Lane. Pours a generally clear gold, white head. Bitter hop aroma. Could do with more cascade fruitiness shining through on the palate, firm bitterness running throughout. Still, a nice Refresher after a 60+ mile ride

ABV: 5.7%. Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, moderate hoppy, fruity hops, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity malt, fruity hops, pale malt, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat.
