Deep golden color, small white head and some lace. Aroma has some overriped banana, light alcohol. Medium-bodied. Banana, peach, light spicey hoppyness. Nice balance. Sweetish fruity finish. Flavor is ok. Quite drinkable.

75 cl. bottle, bought at the brewery in Aarschot. Hazy pale golden with abundant and thick white froth. Aroma is mostly secondary: wild yeast, bread dough, cookie. Citrus fruit and coriander as well. Taste is dry, fresh, round and long-lasting. Very nice, asks for a second pint.

Trevlig.

Das Bier hat eine klare dunkel goldene Farbe und eine große weiße Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, belgische Hefe, trockene helle Früchte. Geschmack nach reifem Obst, hellem Malz, leicht hefig, alkoholisch, starke Karbonisation.

Blonde ’edelbier’ from Wolf (Lupus) apparently made at Het Anker (a good reference!) and offered in an opaque, printed, sober but stylish bottle. Lightly and equally hazy, orangey blonde beer with quiet fizz supporting a snow white, moussy, dense, thick and well-retaining head leaving pretty cobwebs of lacing around the glass. Adding the deposit in this case means adding some loose, whitish protein flakes, but fortunately they do not interfere too much with aroma and flavour. Yeasty aroma, less strong than I had hoped for, yielding impressions of apricot, moscatel wine, canned pineapple slices, red apple, redcurrant, young ’jenever’, chicken broth, some faint vanilla, persimmon, freshly baked white bread, sundried tomato, hint of cigarette tobacco and a faint presence of melting plastic, but fortunately too subtle to become off-putting. Crisp, fruity onset, pineapple, persimmon, red berries, apple peel, medium carbo, a bit spritzy but not numbing the tongue too much; lovely bready and honeyish malt sweetness ensues, with a fairly ’clean’ yeastiness built on top of it. This honeyish sweetness, delicate and not cloying, persists in the finish, where a very gentle and aromatic, floral hop bitterishness shows up along with warming, ’jenever’-like alcohol, on the brink of becoming astringent, but just managing to keep itself restrained enough not to become overpowering. Fruity and a bit meaty, boozy but delicately so, this beer clearly shows off the Anker quality stamp rather than Wolf’s own house style (Lucifer springs to mind). Enjoyable and delicately sweet, definitely not one for hopheads, but shows enough finesse to be an agreeable sipper.

Pours cloudy and hazy golden. Head is white, thick and very persistent. High aromatic intensity: spices and herbs (spearmint, coriander, white pepper), pine nut, wild honey. Taste is slightly sweet at the beggining, with a powerful and very well developed structure as it evolves. Great balance between sour and bitter. Fantastic.
