Description
When the young Viennese banker Franz Schaup started brewing beer in 1858, he did not expect his small brewery to develop into one of the most successful breweries in Austria over the years.

In the meantime, the Zipf brewery near the Attersee has a proud 13 beers and 3 types of hops, the refreshment with hop lemonade for adults, to their range. A total of 170 employees work directly at the location in Zipf. They are the ones who ensure that everything runs smoothly every day and are responsible for a large part of the success of the Zipfer brand.

Despite the numerous technical innovations and a merger with Brau Union Österreich AG in 1970, the careful use of resources and brewing with natural hops were always in the foreground.

Thin white coarseish head. Yellow body with carbonation. Grassy syrupy fruity aroma with maize notes. Dry-sweet fruity grassy mealy taste with sugary oily maize notes. Mid-bodied. Mild faintly oily mouthfeel. Dryish grassy papery mealy aftertaste with fruity notes. Not at all bad for an industrial pale lager. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly.)

33cl, typical Zipfer bottle, found in Lund, Sweden (2.8% alcohol though). Poured a golden body with a small white head that went away relatively fast. Sweetish malty nose. Mostly empty taste, some honeyish maltiness, weak herbal hoppy nostes. Not too terrible really, better than most other 3.5ish examples.
