Description
Asmara Brewery (formerly, Melotti Brewery) was the first brewery in Eritrea. It was founded in 1939 by Luigi Melotti. The brewery was nationalized by the Derg during the Eritrean War of Independence, and was then inherited by the Government of Eritrea. Ownership in the brewery is shared between investors and the Government of Eritrea. In 1998, its factory exported up to 40% of production, with the remainder being domestically consumed.

330mL bottle shared by RobertDale, thanks Bob. My favorite part of this beer is the vintage appearance. When Bob pulled this out I thought we were about to drink some 70s German berliner weisse. It looks like the only bottles and label makers available in Eritrea were donation from retired German equipment. More importantly, I had no idea there was a country named Eritrea. Apparently, its only been a country is 1991. And the beer, well its a sulfuric mess, burning match kind of sulfur. Eh, I could not drink this stuff. If this was my only choice of beer I would be teetotaler.

Bottle. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, white head. The aroma reminds me of a store room filled with old, buckets of paint. Some pale malts and fruityness too. The flavor has the same paint store room feeling, but is more on the fruity and malty side. Medium body with some carbonation, semi-sweetish. My 1.5 rating is probably too high, as this was a really shitty beer. 130216
