Asmara Brewery

Commercial Brewery in Asmara, Eritrea 🇪🇷

Established in 1939

Description
Asmara Brewery (formerly, Melotti Brewery) was the first brewery in Eritrea. It was founded in 1939 by Luigi Melotti. The brewery was nationalized by the Derg during the Eritrean War of Independence, and was then inherited by the Government of Eritrea. Beers of the World country 150: Eritrea 🇪🇷

"The beer is light pale yellow in colour with a bubbly foam top. Smells like any other African lager. Initial taste is crisp and malty before finishing on the sweeter side. Decent for an African lager and something to look for if you find yourself in an Eritrean restaurant!" - beersoftheworldproject.wordpress.com

Fast gone white head; faintly veiled yellow beer. Grassy notes, sweet grain mash, green leaves. Dry, again grassy, hay, grainy rather than malty. Finish is almost graindust, with a faint bitterness and bitter honey. Seems better carbonated than it looks, neutral on many levels. But one thing I must admit, quite better than feared, in the international lager segment, there's much much worse. Thanks to Stef!

33cl Fles bij Eritrees restaurant in A'dam Noord, naast Taverno Willi Becher. Bleek goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Papier, redelijk zoet, weinig bitter, maar redelijk vol van smaak en geen nare bijsmaken. Lichte body. OK.
