Gravity cask at the 2020 Leicester Beer Festival. Dark gold and clear with a tiny film of white head. Sharp aroma, with cooking herbs and overripe oranges. Sweet taste with a pushback from the spicy soapy bitterness of the Sorachi Ace hop. Sugary buttered notes in the finish. This is Sorachi Ace in all its clunky glory. They nailed it.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2019 - Hackney. Pours clear reddish-gold with a creamy, white head. Has some doughy malts, light caramel, notes of ripening berries as well. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, nips of butterscotch. Not bad.

Bottle from the Vine Inn, Rugeley. Reddish brown, translucent with a ring of off-white head. Aroma is full of carob with strong notes of stone fruit. The taste is sweet and quite boozy for the ABV. Massive note of chocolate cherry to the fore, fading to a gentler bittersweet finish. Heavy carbonation. I think the extra carbonation from bottling suits this malt-heavy beer. Lovely.

Handpull cask at the Vine Inn, Rugeley. Mid- to dark brownish gold. Clear with an off-white head. Malty aroma, some citrus on the nose, a bit of smoke - or is that from the nearby fire? - and some TCP. Bittersweet taste with a pronounced and distracting vegetal character. Long finish with some citrus peel bitterness. Soft carbonation. Not particularly grapefruit-y but a drinkable if unexciting beer.

Handpull cask at the Vine Inn, Rugeley. Dark golden brown with a big tight white head. Malty bready aroma. Taste is similarly malt-driven without any noticeable hop kickback. Long sweet finish, flat yet full body. Decent enough but very same-y throughout and quite heavy for the relatively low ABV.
