We’re Crux Fermentation Project— housed in a former AAMCO Transmission Plant and inspired by our location right in the heart of Bend, Oregon. Our brewery is a one-of-a-kind, built for non-traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, open fermentation and barrel aging, and for leveraging the limitless possibilities that wild yeast strains and experimental hops present.

On tap at Portland taproom. Pours clear pale gold with white head. Aroma has lemon rockets and light tropical fruit. Flavour has lots of lychee, biscuit malts, and mango. Snags a bit in the back of the palate.

On tap at brewery. Pours clear yellow with white head. Aroma has dry straw and cracker malts. Flavour has some straw, but the malts have a bit too much residual sweetness. Lacks the crisp and refreshing qualities I would have liked to see.

On tap at Crux - PDX, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma has a sort of tart fruitiness, light vanilla, some spices, no notice of the barrel. Flavour has plenty of spices, fruity coffee, vanilla, and some rum. Surprisingly not harsh, and everything works cohesively. But the barrels are light and the body is light, somewhat lacking depth. It's alright.

On tap at Crux - PDX, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out citrusy hops, a hint of pine, and biscuity malt. Flavour is lightly bitter, with crisp crackery malt, gentle pine, and a hint of citrus rind. Not the most aggressively hopped but balanced reasonably. Decent.

On tap at Crux - PDX, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma has some citrusy hops, light stone fruit, and biscuity malt. Flavour is gentle, with citrusy fruitiness, lychee, and a touch of gentle floral hops. Rather weak but clean and drinkable enough. Meh.

On tap at Crux - PDX, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma has gentle lychee and citrusy hops, with a dry biscuity malt base. Flavour is fairly bitter, with bitter citrus rind, grapefruit, and dry biscuity malt. Tons of bitter citrus rind on the finish. Good.

On nitro tap at Crux - PDX, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a medium creamy tan head. Aroma has a sort of briny, lightly toasty character. Flavour is full-bodied, with plenty of roasted malt, dry cocoa and a touch of coffee. Finishes roasty, chocolatey and nicely bitter. Not the most robust stout out there by any means; the nitro kind of dilutes it. But it has good depth and balance. Good stuff.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 5.5
On tap at Crux - PDX, pours dark brown with an amber tinge and a small beige head. Aroma has weak PB2 powder, some cocoa powder, not much actual peanut butter character. Flavour just doesn't work — there's some weird fruitiness, faint PB2 powder, and a hint of cocoa. What? Fruity and lacking malt depth, and no real actual peanut butter.
