Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of dark chocolate, roast coffee, vanilla bean, dark fruit, plum and roast black malt. Medium body/slightly lighter.

Tap. Pours clear light amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is of grapefruit with notes of pine and some astringency. Flavor is also grapefruit. Some sweetness apparent but no real malt flavors. Finish is medium bitter. Quite nice.

Tap @ Hopping Pig, San Diego. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich roast malt, vanilla, chocolate, notes of fruit and hops.

Pours deep dark gold into a snifter. White head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Sweet caramel and resin aromas. Sweet caramel and toffee upfront turning to a hot lasting resin finish.

12oz bottle pours very dark with dark brown head. The aroma offers up black licorice mixing with dark rasted malts, some molasses and a faint toffee like note. Wow, I’m digging this flavor with its dark roasted malts, black licorice, some molasses covered chocolate brownie and then rolling into burnt maltiness. This is rich and yummy and but ends a little under whelming for the style as it is thin and picks up a touch of malt astringency. Over all a very tasty brew.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is of grapefruit, caramel malt and pine - right in my wheelhouse. Taste is grapefruit and malt, with alcohol notes coming on late and a piney bitter finish. Full bodied on the palate.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a bit of a copper glow and a thin, almost non-existant off-white head. Aroma of grass, coriander seed, oranges, alcohol and a hint of metal. Medium-bodied; Strong wheat flavour at first then mellows out with some sour orange tastes, a hint of yeast, a little lemon and a light herbal flavour. Aftertaste shows a lot of wheat, a bit of sweetness, but mostly, sour and bitter lemon and curacao flavours. Overall, a decent hef, more on the ’relaxing’ and refreshing side of beers, but not horrible. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 18-November-2011 for US$3.30 sampled at home in Washington on 10-June-2012.
