Meteorologically speaking, it’s a front range-covering, water-table-filling, snow-dumping weather pattern that anyone with bindings and a roof rack would die for. Beerologically speaking, it’s carbonated gold. In 2008, Matt Cutter, Henry Wood and Dany Page, kissed their homes in Cleveland, Atlanta and Argentina goodbye to bring their beer-brewing love affair to Boulder, Colorado. With that, Upslope Brewing Company was born. And after ten years of supplying Colorado with trailhead tallboys, and pow-day libations made from the freshest snowmelt, the finest hops and the purest passion for living life outdoors, one thing has become undeniable. These guys didn’t just float another microbrew into the sea of Colorado microbrews. They created a lineup of quality craft beer that tastes as good poured from a tap as they do pulled out of a fishing vest. In other words, for those who call the Continental Divide home, the perfect storm.

Crystal clear, beautiful amber and bright copper coloured body with a pretty soapy tan head, about two to three centimetres tall. Aroma of grass, light pine, flowers and yes, some spruce here, but the malt and sugars are noticeable too - in the nose, at least. Light to Medium-bodied; Crisp and grassy flavours dominate with some deep resinous bitterness here, along with a good malt backbone and some dryness, but the spruce somehow is the strongest, in a nice way, with a little sweetness on the end. Aftertaste is crisp, deep and pretty balanced, with the hops of course the strongest here, but the malt provides enough of a backbone; there is some mild sugars and the rich hoppy flavours, especially the dry and grassy, piney and sprucey flavours show strongest, as the name suggests! Overall, great to try, even a few weeks past the 'best by' date - this beer is nice for the style and overall - balanced throughout, still bitter, but showing nice richness and complexity here! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Altamonte Springs, Florida on 01-January-2023 for US$2,29 which made it into the store on 30-November-2022 with a 'best by' date of 11-March-2023 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 24-April-2023.

Taste starts refreshing citrusy and sweet malty, following is bready, herbal and slightly medicinal, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is heavy bitter. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Very nice pale ale…
