The desire to discover has a long tradition in Rožňava. The history of this royal city is closely connected with gold mining. Yet Rožňava gold was not only hidden in mines under the town. The German mining experts also brought the craft of making golden beer liquor here. So the history of Rožňava beer specialties dates to the Middle Ages. Years have passed, but the desire to discover the unknown has remained. That’s why we founded the Kaltenecker brewery in 1997. Instead of pre-made parts, we offered an honest craft. Instead of the same-old, variety. Because we’re all different, so why drink the same beer?
Kaltenecker followed a different path than large breweries. We brew our beer specials from 100% malt. We don’t use any stabilizers. Why would we? Our beer sells out immediately. Quality is the bedrock, and we’re also constantly discovering new tastes and new taste combinations. We enlarge our range with popular seasonal specials at least four-times a year. After all, when elderberry flowers bloom on Rožňava’s fields, why not make an elderberry special? We brew in small batches, but always with big imaginations. This is the path our brewery follows.

V stanicnom pivovare. Vona silna karamelova. Jantarova farba mierne kalna, silna pena. Chut vyrazne horkasta hladka mierne drevita. Na konci silne horke.
Bottle 0.33l at home, Nivala. Secret Summer Santa 2019. Thanks Wendigo! Color is dark brown with small brownish head. Aromas and flavours: Bread, grain and malts. Good dark lager.
Dieses IPA hat einmal eine Silbermedaille auf einem Bierfestival in Dublin gewonnen. Es ist ein angenehm gehopftes IPA mit einer schönen Bitterkeit, ohne unangenehm zu werden. Es wurde mit amerikanischen Yakima-Hopfen gebraut und zeigt den Hopfen-Bison/Yak auf dem Ettiket. Erfreulich sind die fruchtig-grasigen Noten, welche ein gutes Bier dieser Richtung auszeichnen -alles da wo es sein soll. Schön dass man ein solches Bier in der Ostslowakei findet.
Endlich mal ein wirklich gutes Bier aus dem Kreis Košice...und dann sogar ein Weizenbier, das mir besser gefällt als manches bayrische Produkt. Die Silbermedaille am Dublin Craft beer cup, die am Etikett angepriesen wird, ist also nicht ganz aus der Luft gegriffen. Optisch mag es etwas dünn aussehen, aber die fein fruchtigen Aromen sprechen eine andere intensiv ausgewogene Sprache. Ein tolles Weizenbier.
Als ich die Flasche öffnete, sprudelte der Schaum hervor und es verbreitete sich ein muffiger Geruch. Da hatte ich schon Angst vor altem Gammelbier, auch wenn es eigentlich noch 5 Monate halten sollte... Ich überlegte mir schon, welch wütendetes E-Mail ich schreiben sollte und in welcher Sprache, doch es war dann aber doch nicht so übel; es hatte allerdings einen bitteren Beigeschmack, der nicht reinpasste und die gewohnte Süffigkeit eines Elfgrädigen vermissen ließ. Man konnte es schon trinken aber wirklich begeistert hat es mich nicht.
Swing top bottle from Cuso, thanks! Brown color, hazy. Malt, caramel and raspberry sweets in the aroma. Thick and alcoholic fluid. Raspberry, berries, vinous notes. malt. Not too sweet. Caramel. massive beer with a sticky mouthfeel. But not my taste, I’m afraid.
Pet-bottle from Cuso, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Roast, dark chocolate and licorice in the aroma. Roast and apple syrup in the flavor. Fairly low on carbon. Maybe a bit past its peak.
