Oudaan 15 W28-29, Antwerp, 2000, Belgium
Description
Richard Ootjers, Owner of Station 1280 and Thom Morrell are about to start up Antwerp’s first craft brewery in the centre of the city.
They plan to launch Uncharted Brew Co. in Antwerp’s Oudaan area at the Winkelcentrum, a small shopping centre known locally as the “beehive” for its hexagonal pattern and which sits at the base of Antwerp’s police headquarters.
That’s where Station 1280 moved to from the city’s central railway station in October 2020. The bottle shop and taproom had outgrown the cramped quarters at Antwerpen-Centraal, Ootjers said in an interview with the Beer Idiots.
At Oudaan, Ootjers now has more space, and a terrace where drinkers can hang out and perhaps even listen to some music in the open area.
And then there is the idea for the brewery in the space next door. He joined up with Morrell, who homebrews as BRWBRD, to create Uncharted Brew Co.

Draught Medium, dense & stable white head over bright copperish-golden beer. Citrus, ureum, lunaria, lupulin. Hints of caramel and fruity esters. Sweetish, light sourish and bitter in very good balance. Fruity - mainly citrus/citruspeel - orange jam. Mild hoppy bitterness. Slick, medium bodied. Feels much better carbonated than it looks. Flavours keep hanging. Another good Uncharted - and very Uncharted if you catch my meaning. Quite good but not daring.

Draught Very thick, ultra regular white head over veiled darker orange beer. Ureum & citrus, very intense. Some leafy spice (laurel, bay leaf), but not outspoken; aromatic. Bitter - orangepeel, grapefruitpeel. Bitterness throughout is a bit undifferentiated, alas. Some tannines, I'd say, walnutpeel but not nutty. Very well-carbonated, quite slick, hopoily, at least medium bodied, if light for its ABV. Far from bad, just a tad harsh.

Draught Due to insufficient lighting conditions, arbitrary 4/5. Bit of ureum, lots of orange(peel), straw, orange essential oil. Very toasted, bitter toast. Pine resin, again orangepeel oil, cypress. Sharp, burning MF, quite hopoilslick, oily feel; medium bodied. Not bad, just a tad to sharp for me. As with other Uncharted brews, a bit more lagering might solve that completely.

Draught Very good, dense white head over veiled orangey-golden beer. Nose really as of passion fruit mixed with crumbled grain cookies. Sweet, fruity, bit nutty. But as to Westcoast... Much drier (by lightyears) than the nose suggested. Dry grains and herbs, but now the fruity hops' nose is missing. Dried hops aplenty, but all the exotic fruit gone. Medium bodied, some hopoilslickness, medium carbonation. No, this is a mild IPA, not a Westcoast hopbomb. 7/8/7/6/13
2nd try same batch @ Station 1280 Draught Due to insufficient lighting conditions, arbitrary 4/5 Very grapey nose, muscatgrapes, hint at caramel but not really smelling sweet. Dry-bitterish flavour and fruity. If one could dry grapes and getting rid or the sugars at the same time, this would be it. Aromatic leaves as cilandro; some asafoetida. Light body, bit sticky - hopoily, low to medium carbonation. Fuilteach maith !
