Abbey beer for the Delhaize supermarkets since 1994. I’m a bit surprised to find it has its own entry here, since at least in those days, this was clearly an alias of Affligem Blond; not sure if this is still the case, though. Rating based on old notes; peach blonde beer with medium, rather thick head and malty sweet character with sourish hints, some peachy esters, sweet spicy accents, iron, warming alcohol and herbal hops in the finish. I’ll buy another bottle soon for a re-rating, just to find out if this is still Affligem Blond. Oh, and by the way: stylewise, this is a Belgian ale, not a golden ale, which is an Anglo-Saxon beer style...

Pours a clear golden color, topped with frothy white head. Mild malty aroma, grainy and slightly skunky. Sweet and watery, cardboard taste, slight bitterness and metallic in afetrtaste. Very watered down, not too enjoyable, really.

Bottle from Delhaize Brugge, Sint Kruis, consumed at Lynn & Barrys, Merton, Oxon, Wednesday 31st December 2014 Soft in mouth, a little yeasty sediment in suspension, hazy gold. Typical fruity more Belgian type IPA, a bit dry after initial sweetness, a real furry dryness. A good solid Belgian IPA. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

The dubbel in this series, from the same stylish champagne bottle with cork and hangtag. Yellowish beige, loosely structured yet sticky head; deep hazy chestnut brown robe. Aroma of raisins, fondant, toffee, walnuts, caramel, candied cherries, candi syrup, bourbon, pear and a hint of coffee beans. Candied fruits in the onset, sweet, pear syrup and raisins, candi, medium carbonation with slick and creamy mouthfeel, sourish citrus peel freshness, dark maltiness, caramelly, a bit chocolatey and a tad nutty, bitter chocolate touch as well as a slight roasted bitterness in the end with some residual candi sweetness (a bit cloying), herbal hops and bourbon-like, warming alcohol. Scotch-inspired dark ale, decent enough but a bit clichΓ©.
