Description

Bottle from Sandersput, Ninove. Simply 'Muurken Blond'. Pours clear pale golden with a small, frothy, white head; some lacing. The aroma contains unripe banana, pineapple, yeast, spices, some cheese, grassy hops, hay. It tastes light fruity sweet, a bit bready, and light to medium spicy bitter, hint of yeast and dank cheese. Dry, hoppy, grassy, slightly yeasty finish. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Quenching, rather innocuous.

The stereotypical brown 'dubbel' follow-up to the blond one. At Nationale Bierhappening in its home region, poured by the brewer. Very thick, creamy, pale yellowish white, stable and lacing head over a very dark ruddy bronze-ish, cloudy chestnut brown beer. Aroma of caramel candy, bubblegum, papier maché, dried plums, banana, redcurrant, plastic, white pepper. Sweet onset, residual brown sugars, fig, peach, banana ester, some light sourishness underneath, very fizzy carbonation. Slick, bit resiny mouthfeel, caramelly malt sweetishness with a light toasty edge, bit nutty as well, very smooth and a tad plastic-like in the end, with ongoing banana-bubblegum ester and a touch of clove-like phenols; mild herbal hop bitterness too, alcohol remains hidden. Technically very correct, but also very stereotypical - in other words: dead boring - dubbel.
