On tap. Pours with a tan head over a clear brown hued body. Aromas are decently estery, plums, currants, figs with a strong caramel and brown sugar maltiness. Light melanoidins. Flavors are sweet, too sweet to be honest. Estery, caramel. Feels a bit out of balance. Thick mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

Pours from the growler a hazy, burnt orange with a creamy, lacing white head. Nose is really nice, zesty hops, garlic, earthy, pine needles, lemons, sticky hops. Flavor is sweet, limes, lemons, pine needles, leafy vegetables, candy, sour grapefruit. Full bodied, sweet, sticky, piney finish.

Poured a dark brown color from the cask with absolutely no head at all. Aroma is heavy vanilla and oaked notes. Evan Williams comes through the flavor, most absolutely. No carbonation to speak of. A bit harsh, and at something along the lines of 15% (not 10% as advertised in print), the beer is a bit more mellow than I had expected.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark copper color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of wood, whisky, maple, toffee, berries and a faint hop finish. Amazing. The taste is strong whisky notes, vanilla, wood, toffee, caramel and dark fruits. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, significant alcohol warmth. Granted I’m partial to Scotch ales, but this is a damn good beer.

Draft sample at the 2011 Fall NOVA Beerfest, 10/22/11. Pours a hazy orange color with a large creamy offwhite head. Good head retention. Aroma of earthy, floral, tropical and citrus hops. The taste is big fruity notes, floral, tropical and citrus hops, caramel malts. Medium bodied. Definitely hop forward but a beautiful hop profile and balanced well enough. Best beer I had at the festival, easily.
