It has been mostly a summer without quadrupels. Today in west Texas was rainy and cool. Time to try the quad from True Anomaly. My son found this brew on the shelf at the big Spec’s in Houston and I brought it home. The globe glass often used for this style is on the table and waiting for the pour from the 500 ml bottle. It shows the traditional dark brown, cola-colored body with a slowly dissipating head of curious silver-tan foam. The scent is attractive, malt, yeast and dark fruits. The taste is good, surprisingly good. Sweet dark plums, raisins, malt, red licorice, dark cherries and bread. There’s a bit of burn, perhaps from the bourbon barrels. I’ve tasted many quadrupels and this is better than the standard from Belgium.
