Description
Fate brought us together at Hawkshead Brewery and in a short time it became clear we shared a passion for great beer and many ideals. After being made redundant at the beginning of lockdown restrictions in March 2020. Matt, Michelle, Steve & Paul reunited as Lakes Brew Co. Bringing together the shared ambition to be one of Cumbria’s progressive, sociably innovative breweries. With a strong ethos of support and collaboration, through the beers we produce and the team we surround ourselves with – engrained in our locality.

Adversity lit a flame within us to create something for ourselves, take control of our own futures and build a brewery that we are happy to be involved in. The end of July 2022 marks the first year of brewing for us. We have been so lucky to be able to carry on doing what we are passionate about, not only brewing but in the area that feeds us inspiration on a daily basis. Creating innovative & progressive craft beers in the Lake District and proud to be an inclusive, independent, woman co-owned business where everyone is welcome.

Cask at Old Harkers Arms, Chester. Pours pale straw with a medium sized, foamy almost white head and good lacing. Oranges and generic citrus it the aroma, plus some traces of floral hops. In the mouth it is slightly bitter with a creamy texture. Floral hops to the fore along with lemongrass. Later there are hints of sweetness, and herbal tones leading to a slightly dry finish. Nice and refreshing and plenty of taste for the strength.

440ml can from Lakes Brew Co, after a short trip to the Lakes. Pours a very dark brown, no head remaining. Aroma has rich dark malt, chocolate, sweet bourbon-like suggestions, which continue to taste. Quite a rich porter, good mellow balanced flavour profile, drying close. Not as complex and roasty as you'd expect from a baltic porter but a very pleasant drop.

440ml can from Lakes Brew Co after a short trip in the Lakes. Pours a deep purple with a pink-tinged ring circling the glass. Aroma of vibrant blueberry and other assorted dark berries. Flavour profile seems centred around this with very mild peach emerging on the finish. Tangy, juicy. A brief vision of creamy fruit pie. Not bad.

440ml can from the brewery after a short trip to the Lakes. Pours a vivid red, white ring of foam circling the glass. Strong strawberry syrup / laces aroma. Flavour profile is strawberry-forward with a lick of lime on the finish, not too much pineapple coming through. Gentle creamy side. Tangy and lightly tart rather than sour. Ok.

440ml can from the brewery in Kendal, at the end of our short trip to the Lakes. Misty gold with a proud white head. Aroma has gentle fruity esters accompanying a doughy soft farmhouse yeast profile. Continues nicely to taste, balanced saison overall with a light apricot touch on the finish, moderately sweet with distant grainy hints. Nicely drinkable if a little mild and easy-going.
