Description
Fate brought us together at Hawkshead Brewery and in a short time it became clear we shared a passion for great beer and many ideals. After being made redundant at the beginning of lockdown restrictions in March 2020. Matt, Michelle, Steve & Paul reunited as Lakes Brew Co. Bringing together the shared ambition to be one of Cumbria’s progressive, sociably innovative breweries. With a strong ethos of support and collaboration, through the beers we produce and the team we surround ourselves with – engrained in our locality.

Adversity lit a flame within us to create something for ourselves, take control of our own futures and build a brewery that we are happy to be involved in. The end of July 2022 marks the first year of brewing for us. We have been so lucky to be able to carry on doing what we are passionate about, not only brewing but in the area that feeds us inspiration on a daily basis. Creating innovative & progressive craft beers in the Lake District and proud to be an inclusive, independent, woman co-owned business where everyone is welcome.

Can from the Black Toad. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Beige head. Nose - massive peanut butter, toffee and a week chocolate. Taste - luscious chocolate, peanuts and toffee. Praline. Palate - medium bodied, creamy and sweet middle and finish. Overall - luscious beer. Annoys me when I like beer with adjuncts.

Keg @ Nightjar, Hebden Bridge. Hazy golden with a thin head. Stated tropical fruit notes in both aroma and taste with a low carbonation, fairly flavoursome, but never heavy in this respect.

Panda many thanks to Cloin. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Palate is quite light all things considered, even a tad thin for the style. Good fine carbonation. Smooth dark chocolate malt base, a lesser but noticeable amount of milk chocolate. The peanut butter could be dry and butter but it ain't and merges in with the chocolate malts very nicely. Some fruitiness on the back end, slightly estery. Light and semi dry finish. An entertaining brew. Normally nutty beers do my head in, not this one.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 23/08/23. Black with a good sized lasting khaki head. Nose is sweet chocolate, peanut butter, brown sugar dusting, hazelnut, dark malts, touch of honeycomb. Taste comprises chocolate melt, Reese's Pieces, nutty, dark malts, toffee fudge, brown sugars. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow buzz of alcohol. Decent impy stout ... gets the PNB across well without being overly sweet.
