Hand-pulled half-pint in The Lych Gate, Wolverhampton on 4th Mar 2020. Smooth white head on a golden body. Caramel esters and flavours rule this fairly sweet ale.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton Pours a reddish brown with a small cream head. Body is slow to clear, but does eventually. Just a little toffee on the nose. More toffee in the mouth, with caramel and oats. Basically sweet, but with some hints of spice now and then. Finish is bitter with some alcoholic strength coming through. A good solid winter beer,

On cask at The Wellington, pours a dark copper with a small beige head. Nose is fairly earthy, with toasted bready, not much else. Flavour is quite malty, with bready malt and toasted caramel. Bready and malty, without much complexity. Not particularly impressive. Meh.

Ruby brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of malts and a hint of caramel.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton Pours a rich ruby red with a small cream head. Nose is a nice mixture of dark fruits. Plums predominate of course, also cherries and aniseed. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth but with malty undertones. Taste is a delicate plum flavour, but also hints of raspberries. Finish is sweet and plumy. Certainly nice and very drinkable, but there doesn’t seem to be much to it apart from the plums.

Cask at the Wellington Birmingham. A pale light hazed yellow straw coloured pour with a loose fine white head. Aroma is subdued, white bread, light tang, wallpaper paste. Flavour is composed of tangy, loose wheat, tangy lemon, cinnamon. Palate is grainy, light tang, passable..

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. Light yellow, almost straw with a thin film of white head. Grapefruit, lemon balm, some coriander and lemongrass in the aroma. Sweet taste with a little bit of chalky bitterness. Citrus sweets and some sweet spice with a bit of astringency in the aftertaste. Decent enough drink.

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. Mid-gold and clear with a foamy white head. Musty grassy aroma with wood and forest floor. Bittersweet taste, astringent and sickly at the same time. Dry finish with vegetal flavours in the aftertaste. Flat body. Not for me.

Cask at the Wellington, Bingoham, Cotts Convention V day, 08/06/19. Pale golden blonde to yellow with a decent offwhite cap. Nose is grass, pale malts, lemon rind. Taste comprises mellow fruit esters, straw, toasted grains, light breads, lemon zest. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Passable golde.
