Description
Shock Top is a traditional Belgian-Style wheat ale. It was originally created in 2006 as a seasonal brew under the name Spring Heat Spiced Wheat. After collecting gold in ’06 and bronze in ’07 in the Belgian White category at the North American Beer Awards, we decided to brew year-round and switch the name to Shock Top. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. And the best decision you can make is to try some Shock Top for yourself.

Bottle from Merci Market on 5th Avenue, NYC. Pours dull orange with very little head. Light wheat and tropical fruit aroma. Medium sweeetness, light citrus bitterness. Light body, sticky texture. Quite high carbonation. Drinkable but pretty boring.

First time to drink this beer in a long time. Wheats are okay I suppose but not exactly my thing. Served at the nearby Outback in in a tall schooner. Appearance is a hazy orange with no bubbles I can see and a very small head that disappears promptly. The scent is orange rind, big surprise, I taste orange, big surprise again, and other citrus, perhaps a bit of lemon, a little herbal and some biscuit. It finishes with a very slight bitterness that lingers not long. Inoffensive. One and done.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy gold with a slight white head. Aroma is ginger. So much ginger nothing else comes through. Med minus body. Flavor is ginger. Could be a touch of citrus. Wheat seems to be present. This is a ginger beer. I like ginger. I like this beer.

Tap at Fetta. Pours a hazy, orange juice looking orange with no head. Light orange aromas with some faint grain notes. Sweet orange and mandarin on the palate. Good carbonation and not as syrupy as I thought it would be. Sweet orange finish that lingers. Not cloying but a little too sweet. --- Beer merged from original tick of Belgian White on 20 Nov 2016 at 15:50 - Score: 6

Kroger bottle. Golden, large white head. As soon as it popped I smelled an apple jolly rancher. Holy shit is the aroma strong. Taste is similar. Too sweet up front. Yuck. This is what dropping an apple jolly rancher in beer would be like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/7/2016. Pours very hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big ginger, lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of ginger, lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast/ginger spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of ginger, lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, wheat, biscuit, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a good malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.2%; but there is a bit of building ginger heat through the glass on the finish. Overall this is a good spiced witbier style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; very smooth and fairly refreshing to drink. The aromas were pretty big on the ginger notes; but the flavors were much more balanced. Tasted like a standard witbier with the ginger complimenting the base style. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft@Toronto Airport, Canada. Orange coloured beer with a light head. The aroma is lightly orangy citrus, and the flavour is yeasty with some mild citric fruitiness. Overall an average witbier. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
