About
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.

Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

Exactly as expected: half lager, half saison hybrid. Slightly sweet, which brings it down a bit.

330ml bottle. Hazy, dark amber colour with slightly late awakening, small, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Condensed, zesty, citrusy fruity, slightly dank, resinous hoppy and slightly alcoholic aroma, sugary malty background, notes of orange, mandarine, lemon, orange peel, candied orange peel, a touch of Cointreau, Grand Marnier; weak hints of oxidation, a touch of almond, marzipan, slight Barleywine character. Taste is bitter, zesty, citrusy fruity hoppy, caramel malty with surprisingly low residual sweetness, notes of orange peel, orange, mandarine, lemon, marmalade, hints of Cointreau, Grand Marnier, some lemon zest, candied orange peel, a touch of almond, marzipan; alcohol is well hidden throughout, becomes just recognizable whilst a slightly warming finish. Slightly viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly tacky palate, medium to fine, soft carbonation. Well controlled sweetness, seemingly light and surprisingly fresh due to the zesty citrus flavours - felicitous.

0.33 l bottle from 'Craftbeershop.com', best before May 2024. Hazy, deep reddish amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, fairly spicy, slightly fruity aroma of lots of cinnamon, pumpkin, hibiscus, allspice and some vanilla. Gently sweet, hardly bitter, quite herbal-spicy, slightly fruity taste of cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, allspice, pumpkin, hibiscus and traces of ginger, followed by a, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, almost flat. Please Pumpkin Ale, at least very well-balanced.
