Description
This is how it all began; this is the heart of our history. Sir Gerald Wight, founder of the Caribbean Development Company (CDC), ensured that the production process, which was based on the European-Continental method of brewing with our own twist, was mastered before the company’s flagship beverage, Carib Lager Beer was sold in 1950. In fact CDC still produces the perfect lager today because our formula continues to include the best ingredients, unwavering quality and constant innovation.

Today Carib Brewery boasts a portfolio that includes Beer, Malt, Stout and Soft Drinks. We produce Carib, Carib Light, Stag, Pola and Pola Light, Shandy Carib, Mackeson and Guinness as well as the following nonalcoholic brands; Ginseng-Up, Malta Carib, Malta Carib Ultra, Smalta Smalta Smiles – over 1,200,000 hectoliters of product every year.

Our acute insight into what our consumers enjoy has also inspired us to form partnerships with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Diageo and Ginseng Up Corporation. As a result Heineken, Guinness Stout, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice are also part of our portfolio.

18/12/2025. Bottle from Ocean Convenience Store, Bridgetown Cruise Terminal. Enjoyed back on the boat. Clear dark pink colour. Heavily sweet and sugary taste. Some sherbet tart comes through. Not something I enjoyed.

13/12/2025. Bottle from Rams Supermarket, Bay Road, Basseterre. Enjoyed on Marella Discovery 2 during the sea day voyage en route to Bonaire. Big coffee aroma on opening and pouring. Good pour. Aroma is sweet milky coffee, milk chocolate, maple syrup, roasted malts. Fairly sweet but with some good balancing bitterness. Maple sweetness comes through more in the finish. Decent body, pretty smooth and not too fizzy. Nicely drinkable and one of the best bottled beers on the trip so far.

11/12/2025. Bottle from Rams Supermarket, Bay Road, Basseterre. Clear, almost colourless pour. Lots of sweet coconut and pineapple on the aroma. Very much a pina colada on the taste. Very sweet. Clammy and not at all refreshing in the way the label says it is. But Mrs B says it’s yummy. Not for me though.

10/12/2025. Can courtesy of Diamonds International, Heritage Quay, St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. Pale golden pour. Sweet, malty, buttery, bready, caramel, citrusy aroma. Fairly sweet, moderate bitterness and body. Average carbonation. Smoother and nicer than the SK brewed version tried before this. Original review: 4.9. Drank bottled in Tobago 2012. Pour a clear pale gold colour with an average white head. Aroma is grainy with notes of grass. Light bodied with a typical lager carbonation. It is what it is and does the job in Caribbean sunshine.

Bottle pours clear yellow with strong carbonation topped with a thin white head that persists. Silky mouthfeel with an aroma and flavor of yeast, moderate malt sweetness, slight peppery finish. Decent.

Tasted at No Rush Bar, 77VG+CV8, Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis

Bottle pours rich black with thin tan head that quickly reduces to lace. Silky/slightly watery mouthfeel. An aroma of chocolate delivers on its promise with mild chocolate flavors and hints of anise that do not linger through the finish. Well balanced, enjoyable.

Tasted at Hi Rise Beach Bar, Roseau, Dominica
