Description
This is how it all began; this is the heart of our history. Sir Gerald Wight, founder of the Caribbean Development Company (CDC), ensured that the production process, which was based on the European-Continental method of brewing with our own twist, was mastered before the company’s flagship beverage, Carib Lager Beer was sold in 1950. In fact CDC still produces the perfect lager today because our formula continues to include the best ingredients, unwavering quality and constant innovation.
Today Carib Brewery boasts a portfolio that includes Beer, Malt, Stout and Soft Drinks. We produce Carib, Carib Light, Stag, Pola and Pola Light, Shandy Carib, Mackeson and Guinness as well as the following nonalcoholic brands; Ginseng-Up, Malta Carib, Malta Carib Ultra, Smalta Smalta Smiles – over 1,200,000 hectoliters of product every year.
Our acute insight into what our consumers enjoy has also inspired us to form partnerships with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Diageo and Ginseng Up Corporation. As a result Heineken, Guinness Stout, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice are also part of our portfolio.

The Stouts of the Caribbean are strong, sweet versions of their Irish ancestors. Strangely that in the Islands there are Lagers and Stouts - both complete opposite ends of the beer world - with very little if anything else available in between. Not bad for a Caribbean Style Stout although it's not quite the way I like my Stouts. I've had this in the USVI and Belize and both taste like the same recipe although the bottles/sizes are different in each place I've tried it.

Before I tried this while in St. Thomas USVI, I knew that in the Caribbean they drank "Shandy's" which were a mix of soda, and a light lager beer. So maybe I wasn't expecting a "beer". Sweet, very soda-like, alcohol undetectable either as flavor or effects of. You couldn't stand drinking enough of this to get a buzz unless you're into drinking 32 oz cream sodas (or ginger ales). But as a Shandy, it's not bad. This beer needs to be in it's own style on rate beer. It's not a lager, that's just an ingredient! Sweet, with ginger flavor, but not what you are used to drinking as Ginger Ale.

I've had this in the USVI and Belize and both taste like the same recipe although the bottles/sizes are different in each place I've tried it. This beer probably skunks pretty bad if you don't drink it close to it's source and although I have seen it for sale here in the U.S., I haven't tried it here. Better than an American 'light' beer, (and I'll take a good German Helles or Bohemian Pils over it any day), but in some parts of the Caribbean, it's one of the better beers. Refreshing, better than a Corona in my opinion, but it's along those same lines.
