Clear yellow color, short white head, hardly any carbonation. Aroma of grain, some hops. Quite weak and watery taste, bit grainy. Not too good, but on a sunny day in Trinidad & Tobago probably one of the better drinks.

I saw the bottle and was very curious on this one, so I had to have it. Bright red in the bottle translates to bright red in the glass with a pink head which dies down EXACTLY like soda-not beer. The smell was almost completely identical to Sanbitter by San Pellegrino. A bit sweet in the smell, with cinnamon and other spices. The taste was actually very sweet and not bad at all. Definately not a real ’beer’, more of one of those new alcopops. I don’t know what sorrel has to do with this one, as sorrel is a bitter field green used in cooking. A great one to be able to tell people that you’ve had if you pass it on a shelf, but thats about it. If you are around it, I bet you’ll pick it up too because of your curiousity. I bought this single twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

undated bottle (probably 03). Wow. This has every marking of a bottle of soda. I was just speechless at the note on the bottom of the bottle saying "artificial coloring and flavoring added". Really?? I couldnt tell. . . Well it pours a disgustingly fake bright red with no head. Aroma has that sorrely cinnamon spice note with plenty of sugar. Flavor reminds me a lot of faygo red, if you add the sorrel, which to their credit, at least you can taste. Other than that, granted this is a shandy, it’s pretty bad. Intensely sweet would be an understatement, overcarbonated. Sugary, syrupy cloying body. Alcohol well-masked. . . this is beer? I dont care if it's a shandy, I've seen better ones without this much artificial crap.

undated bottle (03 maybe?). Pours a what appears to be a dark deep brown with a good-sized mocha cream head. Quite bubbly, and on further inspection/settling out, it’s quite clear and lifeless Aroma has vigorous amounts of sweet mocha coffee with plenty of brown sugar in it, a sweet blush vinous feel to it and some bits of licorice and more caramel. Flavor starts out with huge amounts of artificial carbonation peppering the mouth and interupting an overly sweet medium body. Syrupy caramel, molasses and maple overpower the palate and it ends on a sort of thin, almost cherry-cola-like note. I’m really detecting a lot more candy than I would like to (wouldnt want to detect any really). Just tastes very old and artificial, with an unbalanced sweetness. It certainly is distinctively sweet, at least they admit it.

Before I tried this while in St. Thomas USVI, I knew that in the Caribbean they drank "Shandy’s" which were a mix of soda, and a light lager beer. So maybe I wasn’t expecting a "beer". Sweet, very soda-like, alcohol undetectable either as flavor or effects of. You couldn’t stand drinking enough of this to get a buzz unless you’re into drinking 32 oz cream sodas (or ginger ales). But as a Shandy, it’s not bad. This beer needs to be in it’s own style on rate beer. It’s not a lager, that’s just an ingredient! The Sorrel version of this as all the other ratings point out - is a bright vibrant red color. Hints of Cinnamon and lots of cane sugar sweetness.

Paid $1.50 for a 12 oz single bottle. Average golden yellow in color, but nice & soft fluffy white head. I don't smell anything that resembles beer... this nose is full of ginger. Gets extra points for being interesting. ACK, what did I just put in my mouth? This is beer? Tastes more like pop (or soda for you people who don't know the word pop). It's sweet, unbeerlike, and just gross. The only good here is the aftertaste, which is smooth and mellow... This is disgusting, basically undrinkable. Save your time, your money, and your self respect, and pass this one by. I had to dump it out.

Great brown head with little retention on top of this sweet/fruity stout. Almost taste the vanilla/sugarcane with a light bitter aftertaste. Less watery tasting then Guiness but still not a full body if you ask me. Overall, pretty decent for a Carebean beer.

Black in colour-completely opaque with a fairly dense light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, burnt sugar and even a bit of cherry! Medium-bodied; Strong initial flavour of sour milk, morphing into an equally strong sweetness then finishing with a bit of bitterness. Aftertaste fairly sweet with a few bittering characteristics, but left pretty subtle for a stout. Overall this beer is a bit odd-perhaps the Trinidadians and Tobogans are used to it though!? It is the first beer I've had of the style and I would try others after having this. Pick this one up if you can find it and are curious to try the style! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia and sampled it on 11-September-2003.
