Description
This is how it all began; this is the heart of our history. Sir Gerald Wight, founder of the Caribbean Development Company (CDC), ensured that the production process, which was based on the European-Continental method of brewing with our own twist, was mastered before the company’s flagship beverage, Carib Lager Beer was sold in 1950. In fact CDC still produces the perfect lager today because our formula continues to include the best ingredients, unwavering quality and constant innovation.

Today Carib Brewery boasts a portfolio that includes Beer, Malt, Stout and Soft Drinks. We produce Carib, Carib Light, Stag, Pola and Pola Light, Shandy Carib, Mackeson and Guinness as well as the following nonalcoholic brands; Ginseng-Up, Malta Carib, Malta Carib Ultra, Smalta Smalta Smiles – over 1,200,000 hectoliters of product every year.

Our acute insight into what our consumers enjoy has also inspired us to form partnerships with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Diageo and Ginseng Up Corporation. As a result Heineken, Guinness Stout, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice are also part of our portfolio.

Boring lager. Some malts, some hops, but not much else. No character. Drink something else.

0.33 l bottle from a shop in Durres, Albania. BB date 12/07 - well, it’s Albania, right? Poured pale yellow body with tiny head. Industrial malty aroma, quite stinky. Expected for such a bottle. But flavor was even worse, very watery with nothing but some sour-sweet malts. Although doesn’t look so, it was highly carbonated, which is an anesthetic for tongue, so you don’t feel anything else in the finish. It was much worser even than an NA I’ve just had. To be avoided, for sure!

[275ml bottle at the Purple Turtle, Reading] Gold colour, big creamy head, soft carbonation, quite a smooth texture. Light mouthfeel - some grassy hop notes, finish is sweet. Don’t know if it was autosuggestion due to the origin of this beer, but the sweetness suggested some tropical fruit overtones - maybe pineapple? Not a lot to this beer, but it’s quite pleasantly drinkable. I can imagine it going down well whilst chilling out in a beach bar in the Carribean - it’s nice to have a "world" lager that actually has a hint of its origin in the flavour, and isn’t just a cheap rip-off of Bud.

Bottle at Chris_o birthday bash 08. Marginally better than the stud power stout. Black, thin tan head. Sweet and sour aroma. Again sweetish in mouth. Cola-ish. It’s pretty bad. Just too sweet.

330 ml bottle courtesy of my Caribbean connection csbosox. Pour is clear golden with a lot of carbonation bubbles and a small white head. Aroma of metallic and dirt. Something like an auto shop. Taste of metallic sharpness and then not much. Aftertaste is a little dirty.

275ml bottle from Plonkers, Friarsgate, Derby. Gold with a thick soapy white head; grainy aroma; smooth and plasticy, with a corn sugar body; and an unpleasantly sticky finish, with slight, redeeming, lime touch.

275ml bottle from Tobago. I find country’s premium lagers endlessly fascinating. Pale gold in colour with a lasting thick white head. Odd white wine grape aroma and a bit of fire cracker too along with lemon and lime citrus. Served ice cold, it numbs the mouth. Carbonation lends a metallic sting to the pale lager slight hop sting finish. Unfortunately some cardboard emerges on the aroma. Dullish but not umpleasant with some faint lime on the finish.
