Description
This is how it all began; this is the heart of our history. Sir Gerald Wight, founder of the Caribbean Development Company (CDC), ensured that the production process, which was based on the European-Continental method of brewing with our own twist, was mastered before the company’s flagship beverage, Carib Lager Beer was sold in 1950. In fact CDC still produces the perfect lager today because our formula continues to include the best ingredients, unwavering quality and constant innovation.

Today Carib Brewery boasts a portfolio that includes Beer, Malt, Stout and Soft Drinks. We produce Carib, Carib Light, Stag, Pola and Pola Light, Shandy Carib, Mackeson and Guinness as well as the following nonalcoholic brands; Ginseng-Up, Malta Carib, Malta Carib Ultra, Smalta Smalta Smiles – over 1,200,000 hectoliters of product every year.

Our acute insight into what our consumers enjoy has also inspired us to form partnerships with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Diageo and Ginseng Up Corporation. As a result Heineken, Guinness Stout, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice are also part of our portfolio.

Can, 500 ml; expiry date: 05/07; eye: opaque black with a nice espresso head that lasts a bit more than usual, a bit of effervescence, lacing on the glass; nose: toffee, a bit of roasting but rapidly overshadowed by sugar; mouth: surprisingly, no roasting in the tase, mainly sugar, in fact too much sugar, relatively thin. I am still wondering what of a stout this beer has. Oh, as I was doing this, the beer warmed up and just a bit of roasting appeared out of thin air but so little of it...

O.33l bottle courtesy of ozujsko (thanks!). It poured a nice golden colour, fizzy, with a medium sized white head that went away fast. Hm. The nose was... well... skunky and oily, with just a small hint of low quality malt. How surprising. The taste was just as bad. This tasted like a n/a. Whoops, not a n/a. A non alcoholic radler. Exactly like I imagined a n/a radler would taste. Soggy cornflakes - bad n/a malt taste mixing with some fakeish sweet radlery lemon taste. N.a.s.t.y. The acidic aftertaste, while not entirely expected, certainly fits in this trinity of disgusting flavours. I’m not giving it a 0.5, no. There must be something worse out there, I just know it, and to its defense, it was a tad warmer than normal, but I doubt I would like it even ice cold.
