Description
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.
In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.
It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Tap at Delirium Akasaka. Once again, surprised I hadn't rated this before. Pale blond, white bubbly head. Aroma very grainy, lots it of hoppiness, some creamy sweetness. Taste similar, nicer than I remember it being, quite light and hides alcohol well. Tripel yeasty sweetness. Decent.

Yeasty, sweet taste , very fruity (orange, mango, banana). I also found coreander. Bit tart. Very nice beer, very easy to drink, but a bit too sweet.Re-rate: wow, what an aroma. Chalk, sweet grapes and citrus. Sweet, very fruity (grapes, mango, citrus) and yet herbal flavor. Some tartness and alcohol. Lovely beer, full of aroma and flavor. I had to boost the rating a bit.

Malty aroma, prunes and a hint of roasted malt. Sweet malty taste with caramel, apple and prunes. Bit of an alcohol burn. Slightly bitter and fruity finish. A bit sticky. The beer tastes o.k., but doesn’t stand out in any way. Another bottle, tasted in 2010 confirms this rating.

Tap, Cafe De Nieuwe Roos Ootmarsum. Served too cold in a nice glass. Hoppy flavor with vanilla and yoghurt. Lactic sourness widespread. The beer has potential quality, but the lactic sourness annoys.

2006 version, € 12,95 Mitra Hengelo. Blonde with a slight touch of pink. Odd mix of malt and grapes in the aroma. Champagne yeast odor. Dry and light. Vinous, alcoholic and bubbly. The closest a beer can get to Champagne Brut, only less fruity and more alcoholic.

33cl Bottle. Dark amber colour, off-white head. Aroma is very sweet, malty, syrup, caramel, hint of vanilla, booze, raisins. Flavour is very sweet as well, malty, caramel, Madeira wine indeed, raisins, light spicy, bittersweet finish. Full bodied, slightly alcoholic. Typical sweet Bosteels beer. Sipper for sure.

Bottle. A birthday gift off Hydes. Drunk at the local byo kebab place. Pale, green tinged gold. No head. Nose has cardboard. Some fusty lemon. Bit of a leathery thing. Weird shit this. Taste has some bready sweetness. Pretty dry. Medium body. Fine, massaging carbonation. Drinks easy at the ABV. Light bitter finish. Weirdly underwhelming.
