Description
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.

In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Bottle from Intermarche in St Rémy at home in Eygalières. Slightly translucent golden straw pour with fine white head. Aroma is banana, straw, caramel, pepper, lemon. Taste is spicy grassy hops with rich caramel malt. Full bodied but not slick. Very good tripel, but not a style I love.

Bottle shared thanks to Marko. Clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of toffee, butterscotch, floral notes, oak, perfume, vanilla, spice and caramel. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Beery Christmas #22. Wasn't expecting much from this but it's one of the best from the calendar in the end! Pours deep red, little head, clear. Aroma is rich - very rich - and very sweet. Quite a lot of malt complexity here, intense caramel. Interesting notes of spices accompany the underlying tones of vanilla and oak. Big body, silky mouthfeel. Flavour is again very rich and sweet. I am not usually a fan of overly sweet Barley wines but this one is really lovely. Rich caramel and figs and dates. There is something zesty to the flavour which goes surprisingly well with the pronounced wood and vanilla notes. Is this barrel-aged? It surely tastes that way. A really lovely Barley wine, very sweet but the vanilla and oak and the zesty-herbal something make it interesting enough for me. Excellent, a true surprise for me.

0.33 bottle.

It has a light straw yellow color and extra small holes of snow white, yet this durable head has this fame. The aroma is not ostentatious, very round, clean, tiny malty, delicious hops, tiny fruitiness, that's all. More than average carbon dioxide, wheat base flavor, yeasty, sweet, coriander is the extra-little sour aftertaste, but round, refined Belgian tripel. I have better beer, but I recommend it in category !!!!
