About
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.

In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Hazy golden with little white head. Aroma is basil, leek, dandelion, curry, some herbs, citrus. Taste is spicy and soursweet leek, a bit too phenolic. Rather hard to drink. Medium body, too heavy. Still ok.

Clear medium amber colour, tall frothy beige head, slowly receding, light lacing. Aroma toasted malt, caramel, biscuit, bit dough, grass. Smooth mouthfeel, taste light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, toffee, brown sugar, bit alcohol, molasses. Sweetbitter aftertaste, malty and fruity, grassy notes, warming alcohol, full-bodied, oily texture, average carbonation, rich and round, very good strong ale.
Retasted 27/12/20 bottle from my cellar bbd 04/08/17. Rated the same, maybe molasses a bit more prominent overall.

Bottle from Bierland, Belgium. Wheaty triple with huge alcohol palate that sticks in the breath and an enormous fizz. Strong notes of banana. Very relaxing beer to mull over. (26/4/17) ---- Bottle again from a Belgian market. 4 to 3.5. Decent. Strong. (3/6/19) ---- Tap at De Flore Margiet, Leuven. Kept at 3.5. (22/1/22). --- Bottle. Not sure where. This just felt quite brilliant this time 3.5 to 4.

Bottle, 0.75l. Hazy golden pour with two finger creamy white head. Very good retention, thick lacing. Absolutely beautiful and rich nose. Nice hop presence, lemon, lime, grassy. Delicious. Medium body, smooth and light on the tongue. Lively carbonation, really brings out the citrus aroma into the spotlight. Balanced tartness and bitterness. Aroma of malts, yeast and wheat. Full and rich. Herbal, strong coriander presence. Lemons and lime.. Slightly peppery. Malty sweetness coming through a bit during the finish. Very subtle alcohol presence, well hidden and nicely subdued. Dry mouthfeel. Lasting citrus flavored finish. Overall, this one was incredibly tasty. Absolutely delicious tripel.

Golden colour with soapy head. Aroma has yeast and pepper. Floral. Pink peppercorns. Too spicy. I’m glad it was a taster not an expensive bottle.
