Half pint from the tap room (gravity dispense) at The Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. A well bodied old ale with a pitch black body and just a few bubbles on the surface. Aroma of roasted malt. Sweet dark fruits in flavour supported by chocolate malts. Nice bitter ending (04.05.2008).

Cask @ Volunteer Arms, GBBF 2007. Pours a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Fruity malty and slightly hoppy aroma. Sweet smooth warming malty flavor with hints of dark fruit. Sweet warming malty finish with a bitter aftertaste.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 9 Aug 2007) Copper colour with brief beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit and citrussy hops, rather sweet and a bit closed. Malty taste with tropical fruit and honey, slightly vinous but seductively easy to drink despite the high alcohol level. Full body, rather sweet and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. A bit too sweet for me, but very warming.

Cask gravity @ GBBF 2007, London. Clear light orange color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, wheat, light to moderate yeasty, light hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet with average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.
