Sample during Blarney Wine Festival on 03/17/2012. Dark copper-amber color with a medium thin bone white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Sparse strings of lace. Grainy malt, caramel, fruit and hops in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is slightly boozy with a grainy malt aftertaste. Solid Barley Wine overall after a couple years of aging.

(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20120222) The beer poured pitch black. Its head was huge and light brown. Aroma had roasted malts, liquorice, coffee and hops. Palate was medium bodied and soft with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, burnt malts, ash, hops, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, burnt and bitter. A soft and dry stout with long lasting and quite harsh but still pleasant taste.

Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki

Pours pitch black with a massive smooth brown head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate, malts and salmiakki. Taste is "wet", salty and roasty with a lot of licorice and notes of fruits, coffee and chocolate. Finish is salty with some roasted chocolate notes. Tasty, well balanced wet and salty stout.

On tap at the Craft. Opaque black beer, little tan head. Smooth palate with some body, semi dry. Rich dark malt, slightly ashy. Very slight lacto. Crisp minerals. Trace of something plastic well buried. Hints of coffee and fruit. Finishes semi dry. Seems to be popular with the punters at the time of purchase. Can’t say I am that enamoured. It a somewhat skewed beer that doesn’t quite hand together.
