On tap @ Beer Temple. Orange/amber color. Off white head, good lace. Aroma: sweet malt & resiny hops, nicely balanced. Flavor is medium bitter and lightly (malty) sweet. Body is fuller than I expected from 5.8%. Firm bitter finish. Nice!

Sampled from a 25 oz brown bottle this beer poured a slightly hazy caramel color with no head and no lacing. The aroma was caramel. molasses and faint vague fruity hops. The flavor was toasted sour caramel, light tobacco, wood and a bit of nut. The finish was long tangy nut, caramel and tobacco. Fairly full bodied but somewhat undercarbonated. Ok.

Draught at Craft Beer Co., London. Very black, lively beige head. Heavily roast ywith full body and clean, spritzy mouthfeel. Hoppy greapfruit combines with licorice roastiness, all diluted by severe over carbonation. Long inky bitterness.

Keg at Craft Beer Co. It pours opaque black, with a thin tan head. The nose is smoke, leather, roasted malt and salted caramel. The taste is roasted malt, lingering smoke, treacle, tar, ash, burnt malt and salted caramel, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Decent.

2010 Vintage received in trade from DavoleBomb, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid black color with a frothy tan head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smells of roasted grains, chocolate, coffee, tart fruit, hints of bourbon and vanilla. Taste is more tart than stout, seems something has gotten into the barrel on this one. Sharp tart fruit up front, bitter roasted coffee and chocolate next, and then a mellow oak, vanilla, roasted finish. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a bitter tart mouthfeel. Having known nothing about this beer, my first surprise was the oak aging and my second surprise was the slightly lactic fruity tartness. This is a decent beer as is, but I’d like to think this was fantastic before the lacto got around to souring it.
