Cask at the Earl of Essex, 24/06/14. Dark mahogany brown with reddish hues when held in the light topped by a moderate light tan swirl and edgeing. Nose is blackberry forward, light must, hint of spice, woody notes, earthy. Taste comprises red berry fruits, lighter blackberry than on the nose, musty, sweet sugary notes, bramble berry compote, light biscuit. Light to medium body, a little thin, fruity close with light grassy pangs. Unusual grassy presence for a mild. Ok berry fruit mild but not one I’d be looking to drink again though!

Cask @ Engineers Arms, Henlow. Very dark brown with a tight little head. Aroma dominated by charcoal, there’s light fruit but not as pronounced as the smokiness. The berry asserts itself in the gorgeous sweet and fruity taste. Disappears under a cloud of bittersweet blackberry and smoke. Light palette, a bit too weak for my personal taste. A brilliant mild.
