Description
With its conical corner tower and solid brick façade, you can feel our brewery’s history before you step through the doors.
Our founders have revitalized numerous buildings in Danville’s River District, and this 1891 warehouse immediately captivated them. After being empty for decades, they knew the building deserved a new life. Just as our building was once at the forefront of the tobacco industry, our goal is to bring it to the same prominence for craft beer.
So, today, you’ll find a 20-barrel, modern facility capable of brewing 10,000 barrels of beer each year. At Ballad, we’re breathing new life into our renovated warehouse by crafting sophisticated beers that will please the most discriminating palettes.
But we aren’t just making beer here — we’re inviting the whole community to share the experience with us. Our casual, family-friendly taproom is a place for locals and visitors to find new beers they love and connect over shared stories.

Bread crust, strawberry nose. Hazy amber, medium head, decent lace. Lemon, pear, strawberry, dough. Medium body, easy carbonation. With the fruit addition, it isn't really a true cream ale, but the base beer does show and in a good way.

Clear golden and light peach coloured body with a relatively thick, two to three centimetre tall off-white head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of crisp citrus, grass, light flowers and a heavy hit of perfume, all with a tiny bit of malts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong bitter hops show at first that are grassy and very fruit focused, but don't show the mango flavours or any tropical fruit notes, but do show a lot of grapefruit, lemon and orange notes, all with a moderate malt backbone. Aftertaste shows some grass, light piney bitterness from the hops and a relatively smooth, but balanced malt profile that hits strong and shows a lot of flavour throughout, but perhaps not too much complexity. Overall, a nice and fruit-based IPA that shows more citrus and even apricot notes than anything tropical or mangoey, but all relatively bitter and enjoyable. A nice beer, and while nothing spectacular, a solid East Coast IPA that has a pleasant bitterness and balance. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 12-September-2020 for US$2,79 sampled at my house here in Washington on 30-September-2020.

$4.04 pint can from TWSP. Home: for Ophelia because she's back home after her first chemo treatment. Orange, hint of haze, off-white to beige head. Floral hops, orange peel, light tropical fruit nose. Flavor are orange peel, grapefruit, pine, resin, light tropical fruit, lightly sweet caramel. Nice bitterness, but I'm doubting the 150 claim.

Pint can from TWSP. Pours nearly black with a dusting of a head. Nose is very boozy - mostly bourbon, but some wood as well. Flavor is boozy bourbon, buttery rum, raisin, chocolate. A little sweet at a point, but fades quickly. A little thinner than expected.
