Description
With its conical corner tower and solid brick façade, you can feel our brewery’s history before you step through the doors.

Our founders have revitalized numerous buildings in Danville’s River District, and this 1891 warehouse immediately captivated them. After being empty for decades, they knew the building deserved a new life. Just as our building was once at the forefront of the tobacco industry, our goal is to bring it to the same prominence for craft beer.

So, today, you’ll find a 20-barrel, modern facility capable of brewing 10,000 barrels of beer each year. At Ballad, we’re breathing new life into our renovated warehouse by crafting sophisticated beers that will please the most discriminating palettes.

But we aren’t just making beer here — we’re inviting the whole community to share the experience with us. Our casual, family-friendly taproom is a place for locals and visitors to find new beers they love and connect over shared stories.

Very crisp deep copper and bronze coloured body with a large four to five centimetre tall tan head that fades quickly and leaves just about nothing on top. Aroma of light grain, toasted malt, a dash of peat, some subdued earth and only a dash of caramelised sugars without much else. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and grainy flavours dominate with the malted barley notes the strongest as well, showing perhaps some small sugar flavours from caramel and light toffee and a dash of cleanser notes towards the end, without any real depth. Aftertaste shows some soft herbal and light citrusey notes and ending with a touch of earthiness and tobacco notes, that finish this one out. Overall, a fairly subdued and mellow offering, with some lighter malt, grain and earthy notes, without anything of real substance and only showing a softer herbal and funky bite at the end. Good to sample, but not really recommended unless you absolutely love lighter lagers, and even then, just ot use as an example and not as a world-class version of any style. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 20-May-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 15-June-2020.

Ridiculously hazy golden, orange and raw honey coloured body, all with a very large, massive five to six centimetre tall, soapy, large-bubbled, off-white head that fades fast. Aroma of dry grain, coriander seed, grapefruit, citrus, hay, wheat and a healthy dose of pepper. Light to Medium-bodied; Very crisp grain, hay and fresh-cut grass notes dominate with a lot of citrus, lemons and grapefruit fruitiness right behind, but none of those show any sweetness. Aftertaste is very crisp, incredibly dry, but showing some nice floral and almost saison-y notes with the wheat coming up the strongest, then some citrus, all followed by grass, peppers and a light hit of cleansers. Overall, a nice, light and airy IPA-ish beer that almost tastes like a slightly hoppier saison (think Tank 7/Boulevard), but this really is the epitome of a true 'White IPA', even though people won't call or categorise it like that. Good in the summer and even better to drink fresh! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from the Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 19-June-2020 for US$3,77 sampled at my house here in Washington on 12-July-2020.

Raw barley and a hint of roast, but almost like sunroasted flavor. Let's say tanned. Pours hazy maroon with decent head. Crisp and light tang in finish. Easy drinking. Bottle.
