Our founders have revitalized numerous buildings in Danville’s River District, and this 1891 warehouse immediately captivated them. After being empty for decades, they knew the building deserved a new life. Just as our building was once at the forefront of the tobacco industry, our goal is to bring it to the same prominence for craft beer.
So, today, you’ll find a 20-barrel, modern facility capable of brewing 10,000 barrels of beer each year. At Ballad, we’re breathing new life into our renovated warehouse by crafting sophisticated beers that will please the most discriminating palettes.
But we aren’t just making beer here — we’re inviting the whole community to share the experience with us. Our casual, family-friendly taproom is a place for locals and visitors to find new beers they love and connect over shared stories.

Whiskey, kibble nose. Garnet brown, thin head, full of floating sediment. Whiskey, caramel. Full body, easy carbonation. Has flavor, but seems to lack a degree of depth and richness. Warming it does help.

Perfectly clear peach and bronze coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall off-white head that stays afloat nicely and leaves a pretty lace on the sides of the glass. Aroma of citrus fruit, light pine, biscuits, melons, grass and a dash of resin, all with some noticeable yeast and breadiness towards the end of the nose. Medium-bodied; Strong rich malty, biscuity bite with a dash of flowers, some grass, hay and soft grainy notes, all with some citrus fruit bitterness and cleanser-like notes for added hoppy characteristics along with some soft sweetness and a little tropical fruit note of mangoes as well. Aftertaste shows some grassy and herbal notes, but the main driver here is the orange fruitiness and a good balance of malts that really give this support, all the way through. Overall, a nice and enjoyable, relatively easy-drinking, yet fruity and flavourful iPA, plain old East Coast style, relatively average in alcohol with no true gimmicks, what a relief for once! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 27-November-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 30-November-2020.

Pint can thanks to hershiser2! 5/23/23. Black, medium dark brown head, poor retention. Aroma of roast, raisin, cherry, oak, vanilla, whiskey, coffee. Taste is roast, oak, vanilla, whiskey, raisin, cherry, chocolate (and fuck, that was just the first sip). Also some coffee and green notes. A bit thin for the style. Moderate booze. Could use a tiny bit of refinement but overall very interesting and complex. Very nice.
