Bottle 75 cl. Pours an opaque black with a dense, creamy and lacing beige head with good retention. Pretty potent aroma of peaty smoke and barnyard. Body is surprisingly light, much lighter than you'd suspect from the aggressive nose. Roast and a hint of English licorice, but it's the peaty smoke that dominates throughout. Dry finish. Well made, and likable if you like peat aromas. 110920

Bottle 75 cl. A slow gusher. Pours a hazy, dark brown with an orange hue and a lacing, beige head. Subtle roasty and nutty nose with a hint of metal. Medium body, fairly solid malt base, slightly phenollic with some licorice notes and a bitter finish. A somewhat rustic Brown Ale. 110920

Bottle 75 cl. Slow gusher. Pours a cloudy almost carrot golden with a smallish, off-white head. Nose is sweet malty with a metallic touch. Medium body, surprisingly hoppy, subtle phenols and again: surprisingly good bitterness. I wouldn't really call it a Saison since it doesn't have the spiciness or the complexity, it's more of a hoppy Golden Ale. 110920

75cl bottle, persistent gusher. Black, head eventually settles to a thick beige cover. Nice smoked aroma, woody and slightly meaty with malt and a little licorice note. Malty smoke flavour. Smoke is nice and smooth. Quite malty, dry and almost woody finish. Smooth and soft once all the fizz has gone. Decent.

Clear dark amber, light beige head. Wood, malt, caramel aroma. Malty flavour, light roast and licorice, some wood and quite pleasant notes of whisky. Rather nice, another good one from West Brew.
