Description
2020 – the year of all years. Affecting the whole of the UK, I too was hit by the virus. Luckily I wasn’t sick, but eventually was made redundant.
Not great timing as our little boy was about to arrive, but we were so excited to meet him.

Natalie just about to go onto Mat Leave, still working away at our dining room table eventually got sick of me hanging around the house. So I kept busy, and what better way to do that than make a dream a reality.

Out came the tools, some sawing and banging (and a trip to the hospital) – 2 great things were born that month.

Cask at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico. Slightly opaque light gold. Thin foamy to frothy white head. Aroma has low key sugary fruit with an equally light sour gooseberry edge. Vaguely malty. Flavourwise it mirrors the aroma. Sweet with a sour slightly bitter edge. The latter two then gain more prominence. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-flat carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. OK but unexciting APA.

Perhaps a misnamed style here, it tastes very American in design. Soft textured so doesn't feel its strength, but plenty of body and is an appealing sweet tasting red ale.

I interrupted the make-up session of the brewer-server to order this one, she said she was late this morning so was catching up! I did compliment her on her porter at the same time. Clear red, which is more cherryade in colour than cherry, but is more fruit beer than the aforementioned. Somewhat sweet, quite average.

Black Water the film is not for those with a fear of Crocodiles. Nothing to fear here. Black-brown colour with a light-brown head. Sweetish porter, with a mix of mainly dark malts and a few roasted ones in this one. Nice and crisp with a smoothish texture.

The longest straight border in the world is on the 49th Parallel. Pale golden in colour. This parallel is a strength improved version from an earlier incarnation. Hoppy, fruity, lots of body, which on inquiring was the purpose of improving the abv. It's good so can only suggest it's worked.

Can from EeBria, consumed 1 month past BBE. Pours a dark brown, moderate sized beige head, nice retention. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, dark malts with some roastiness, hint of molasses. Caramel, chocolate and a light vanilla dominate the initial flavour, then a moderate bitter roastiness and liquorice. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Very good.

Gravicask, half-pint, shared with Finn at the International Brewing & Cider Festival, Manchester. Black in the glass, beige head, spotty lacing. Roasted grainy aromas. Dark grainy malts and oatmeal to the taste profile, moments of dark fruits. Mid sweet, roasted finish. Quite satisfying stout (Manchester, 22.03.2024).
