Description
Macks Ølbryggeri is the northernmost brewery in the world. The brewery was founded in 1877 by Ludwig Markus Mack. Mack is the fourth largest brewery in Norway, and is probably one of the strongest brands from Northern Norway. Our main production is located in Nordkjosbotn, approximately 70 km from Tromsø. Mack's historical sites in Tromsø houses our administration, the beer shop Kjeller 5, our legendary pub Ølhallen and Mack Microbrewery.

Big white head of very coarse lace quickly dissolves into nothing. Deep copper body. Sweet, deep fruity, malt aroma with traces of English hops. Taste is again sweet fruity malts with notes of raisins and some sharply bitter hops. Sharp, bitter aftertaste with some fruits and quite a bit of metal at the end. I generally like hops and bitterness, but here I think Mack has made the usual Norwegian mistake of using only bitter-hops and no aroma hops, which gives us lots of bitterness and none of that lovely hop aroma. A shame, because if they had used more aroma this could have been a good beer. (0.44l can. Thanks to grove for passing this on.)

Can. Pale golden with white diminishing head. Corn and grass, with notes of hops in the aroma. Malt, grain and some hops in the flavor. Thin body and a weak finish. A beer brewed to attract youth that don’t usually drink beer, it seems. (060512)

Medium coarse white lace over yellow body. Sweetish malty light marzipan aroma. Watery grain taste with a hint of marzipan and burntness. Thin. Lightly bitter aftertaste, with faint floral hops. Much too watery. (0.5l can.)

Can. Golen colour with a white head. Very little aroma and flavour. Far away there is something that reminds me of malt.

Huge offwhite creamy head with some bubbles. Reddish chestnut brown body. Sweet, malty, peppery aroma with notes of cinnamon and chocolate. Powerful, sweet malty taste with notes of chocolate, grain, and pepper. A hint of butter as well, perhaps. Maybe a little more watery than I expected after that lovely aroma. Aftertaste is peppery, mellow bitterness. Overall a good bayer. (0.5l can.)

Canned 0,44l. Pale golden with a white head that lasts for a couple of minutes leaving patterns on the glass. Hints of fruit in the aroma, but soon the bitterness sets in leaving you with a lasting bitter aftertaste.

440ml can. Nice design on the can that fits very well with the other beers in the Ludwig portfolio. Pours a clear straw yellow body topped with a slowly diminishing white foam. Light fruity and a bit oily aroma. Medium bodied. Well rounded taste of mixed fruit. Hoppy bitterness in a long finish. A moreish brew and one of the best from the brewery.

Thin white head over clear yellow body. Sweet bready aroma with some malts. Sweet malty taste with strong noble hop presence throughout, and some bread. Sharpish, bitter aftertaste. Some chalk. Faintly oily mouthfeel. Overall quite good, but not too exciting. (0.33l bottle.)
